Here at WREN, we are always looking for ways to give our members better and more potent resources to help them succeed. Many of you are familiar with, or perhaps have even participated in, our well known BETA program, a 6 week training program designed to give entrepreneurs the boost they need to start or grow a new business.

Inspired by the many success stories that have come out of BETA, and driven by a deep desire to support our many artist and maker members, we went back to the drawing board. After months of drafting, dreaming, scheming and planning, we are thrilled to announce the application period is now open for our second cohort!

LEAP stands for Launching Emerging Artists Practicum, and is an in-depth year-long series of workshops, critiques, studio visits and networking events designed to give artists the tools they need to tackle common obstacles and achieve success in the marketplace.  Monthly workshops, peer-to-peer mentoring and critiques, a regular studio practice and numerous networking events with local and regional industry experts are the backbone of a curriculum rivaling many acclaimed MFA programs. In November, after nearly a year of hard work, the LEAP cohort will share a special show in the Gallery at WREN.

True to the spirit of how WREN began over 20 years ago, with a small group of women determined to support each other, the true power of LEAP stems from its focus on peer-to-peer support. Many of the benefits to be gained from participating in LEAP come not only from the accumulation of knowledge gained throughout the year, and from dedicating regular time to one’s studio practice, but from spending time together in a group, witnessing each other’s progress, challenges, strategies and breakthroughs.

The curriculum consists of 12 monthly workshops, 6 studio visits/critiques, ongoing instructor and peer to peer support, and a shared month-long exhibit. The initial cohort will consist of 6-10 participants, who will commit to the year long program and share a show in November at The Gallery at WREN, but limited space in the workshops will also be open to the public, with options to take just one or two of the workshops, or take the whole series. Full Scholarships and sliding scale are available for artists who income qualify.

Workshops are taught by the Gallery Manager and a group of art, business, and marketing experts/professionals from the region. Full descriptions and registration information can be found in the classes section of this WRENzine. Topics include: Time Management for Artists, How to Write an Artist Statement, Social Media Marketing, Framing and Presenting Your Work (For Every Budget), The ABC’s of Building an Artist Website, How to Price Your Artwork, Photographing your Artwork, How to Apply for Gallery Shows, Overcoming Your Fear of the Dreaded Artist Talk, How to Teach an Artist Workshop, Online Sales for Artists, and Building a Strong Community Network.

LEAP is funded in part with support from the State of New Hampshire Micrenterprise Development Assistance Program Funds and generous community sponsorships.
